Auto Paint & Clear Coat Detailing / Restoration

Paint restoration is the process of removing or minimizing defects and marring on your vehicle’s paint and clear coat.

These blemishes come in the form of:

Scratches

Marks, indentations or abrasions.  Claying, buffing, polishing, jeweling or burnishing & in some cases wet sanding are required for proper correction.

Holograms

Swirls or circles that are scratched into your clear coat creating a grooved pattern.  Typically done by an inexperienced individual using a rotary tool, accompanied with improper pressure, speed, pads, compounds & products.  Claying, buffing, polishing & jeweling are required for proper correction.

Swirl Marks

Scratches in the paint that are at times only visible in certain light & can sometimes be tiny.  They resemble spiderwebs & generally occur from car washes, towels, an inexperienced detailer, dirty wash mitts, sponges & automatic car washes.  Claying, buffing, polishing & jeweling are required for proper correction.

Road Paint

Road & highway marking paint gets splashed & tracked onto your vehicle & can be very difficult to impossible removing the substance.  In some cases it can also remove the factory paint underneath it.  Various processes need to be taken to ensure proper removal & correction to the underside.

Tree Sap2013-08-19 10.39.282013-08-21 12.33.07

Starts off as a sticky molasses substance & over time bakes on your car & becomes as hard as a rock.  In some cases tree sap can etch, raise or eat your clear coat.  Various processes need to be taken to ensure proper removal & correction to the underside.

Road Tar/Asphalt

This nasty substance is on over half of the cars that we see daily.  Fresh tar gets splashed & tracked onto your car just as road paint does & has the same consequences.  Various processes need to be taken to ensure proper removal & correction to the underside.

Hard Water Spots2013-08-19 10.40.002013-08-21 12.33.31

Come in two forms.  Above surface mineral deposits & below surface etching/defects caused by chemicals, minerals, or other compounds in the water that cause dissolving, etching, defects,or stains on your car.  Claying, buffing, polishing, jeweling or burnishing & in some cases wet sanding are requires for propercorrection.

The Method… and some Madness

We remove and minimize the blemishes through a varying combination of the following steps:

Claying

The process of removing surface contamination.  Brake dust, paint over spray, tree sap, tar & bird droppings can cause etching, defects, staining or the dissolving of your clear coat.
wet sanding-The process of removing imperfections & scratches in the paint that buffing cannot alone remove.

Cutting / Buffing

1 or more stages.  The process of removing scratches & sanding marks using certain compounds, machines, pads, speeds & pressure.  Each stage adds another level of brilliance & reflection.

Jeweling / Burnishing

The process of an additional step of polishing using certain pads, machines, speeds & pressure. This is the finishing stage of paint restoration.

The cutting, buffing & polishing are all done by machine.  The wet sanding is done in a very delicate manner with nothing more abrasive than 3000 grit paper.  In most cases your vehicle can be restored to the original showroom quality.
